Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is the customization process like?

A: The SCOUT design customization process is a simple, three-step procedure that not only allows for, but encourages your input and collaboration.

Step 1 – Shoe & Theme Selection
As expected, the first step to the SCOUT process is the selection of your baseline sneaker. This step can make or break the process, so careful discussion and consideration is a must as certain styles lend themselves to customization better than others. If necessary, SCOUT can recommend baseline products and retailers that lend themselves to the customization process. Clients can then opt to order the baseline product themselves, or task SCOUT with the order and delivery. Once the shoe and theme are decided, the real fun begins…

Step 2 – Mockup & Review
SCOUT is one of the only shops around that include a mockup of the final product via a digital collage rendering. In keeping with our goal to deliver a one-of-a-kind product tailored specifically for you, we want you to be a part of the process and provide feedback on our design direction. Unless requested, you will never receive a box without knowing the generalities of the product within it. That said, the SCOUT process does allow the artist to take certain minor liberties with the original design to ensure artistic integrity and the delivery of a quality, one-of-a-kind product. Once the mockup has been approved, the final step is placed in the hands of the artist and the customization begins.

Step 3 – Customization & Delivery
To start, SCOUT customs are cleaned and deglazed with a professional-grade solution to remove the factory finish from the baseline product. Once stripped, the artist will customize the sneaker to your specifications with Angelus leather paint and reglazed to ensure durability and weather resistance. Each pair is thoughtfully conceptualized and professionally executed to the highest level of detail, resulting in wearable, one-of-a-kind pieces of art. The original quoted price includes shipping back to you at an address within the United States.

Q: Are there restrictions to the content that can appear on a custom product?

A: Yes.  A percentage of SCOUT custom commissions, particularly those featuring logos of NCAA and professional sports teams, require one-time licensing for trademark use.  If the application is denied, the trademark cannot legally be used.  Customs shown in the gallery abide by local, state, and federal law with the permission of the licensor.  SCOUT Customs also reserves the right to refuse content that is deemed offensive or inappropriate.

Q: How long does it take to make a custom product?

A: This depends on the treatment the client selects, but most orders can be delivered 3-4 weeks after mockup approval by the client.  Please make all deadlines known at the time of the order to ensure timely delivery of the product.

Q: Are SCOUT customs safe to wear in the rain?

A: Yes.  All SCOUT products are deglazed, customized with professional-grade leather paint, and reglazed to ensure wearability; however, please contact us if you experience any “uncharacteristic” wear and tear.  As you can imagine, custom sneakers are not tailored for all-weather use so please use discretion during periods of extended use.

Q: What happens if my shoes are damaged when they arrive?

A: SCOUT is not liable for damaged sneakers.  All custom products are documented via photograph prior to shipping and we cannot assume liability for any damage resulting from shipping.  All sales are final.

Q: Is there a return policy?

A: No.  Due to the nature of the customization, all sales are final.

Q: Do you ship internationally?

A: Yes.
